Sixth Annual Community Forum on Economic Development:
THE 2011 INDIANA LEGISLATIVE SESSION
How will it impact economic opportunities in St. Joseph County?
How will it affect workers and unions?
How will it affect public education?
Saturday, March 26, is the date of this year's Community Forum on Economic Development.
The event will be held at Indiana University South Bend's Weikamp Hall, from 9 am to 3 pm.
Registration will begin at 8:30; a continental breakfast will be provided during registration.
The morning session will provide an opportunity to learn more about legislation that is dividing the elected representatives of Indiana -- including vouchers for private school tuition, a proposal for restricting prevailing wage rules and labor agreements for public building project, collective bargaining for teachers and public employees and "right to work." There will be plenty of time for audience participation in the discussion.
Afternoon workshops will address issues such as small business development, safe and stable neighborhoods, and the use of tax abatements for economic development.
